Spring 2008:

Learn How to Make Biodiesel
Your viable alternative to petroleum fuel

ACC is offering this course to inform the public about biofuels, how we can break our dependency on fossil fuels, and how to sustain our energy resources.

Biodiesel is a cleaner burning alternative fuel that is produced from any fat or vegetable oil, including N.C. grown field crops such as soybeans and corn. Use of biodiesel over petroleum diesel benefits the environment, energy security, and the economy with a standardized, high quality, renewable fuel.

Learn how alcohol, biodiesel, methane, and cellulose products can be used to replace depleting fossil fuels of gasoline, diesel, natural gas, and coal.

Renewable Energy
Alternatives to petroleum fuel
Renewable energy is on everyone’s mind today as concerns over global warming and conventional fuels grab headlines. This course takes the mystery out of renewable energies, and explains solar energy, wind energy, and energy from biomass. Students will learn how energy conversion affects the environment, and the benefits of renewable energy on air pollution and global climate change. Discussions will cover the technologies used for collecting renewable energy and converting it into thermal or electrical energy. By the end of the course students should feel prepared to contribute to the design and selection of renewable energy systems.
